While creating a new cloud-based app is relatively straightforward, migrating an existing app to a public or private cloud can be extremely complicated. In a recent speech, Adiascar Cisneros of business systems portability company Racemi laid out some best practices for moving apps to the cloud.
According to Cisneros, the cloud migration process should include four steps:
- Assessment: Determining whether a given candidate is a good fit for the cloud and if so, what type of cloud services are the best fit.
- Staging: Testing the cloud deployment to see if it will work.
- Migration: Actually moving the application to the cloud services.
- Optimization: Tuning the app for better performance.
