The fighting game community received unexpected news with Capcom’s recent reveal of the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection. This announcement has sparked discussions about potential new entries in the future.

In an exclusive interview with Dexerto, the collection’s producer Shuhei Matsumoto hinted at the possibility of a new Marvel vs. Capcom game, contingent on fan support. Matsumoto expressed optimism, stating there might also be an opportunity for a new Capcom-based SNK game if fans show enough interest.

“The development team at Capcom has big dreams. Creating and releasing these kinds of games would take time and effort, but currently, we are focused on reintroducing these past legacy games to a new audience,” said Matsumoto.

Capcom teases fans with future possibilities

“We hope that, by making these series available on modern platforms, there may be future opportunities to develop new, larger games.”

However, the continuation of these projects largely depends on the success of the upcoming Fighting Collection. Matsumoto also mentioned Marvel’s interest in tournaments like EVO, recognizing that there is a significant demand for these games on current platforms. These comments coincided with SNK’s announcement of new releases for the Switch, PlayStation, and Steam.

Capcom’s strategy appears to align with renewing interest in their nostalgic titles to build a foundation for potential new projects. For now, fans are encouraged to support the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection if they want to see new titles in the future.

The collection will be available on various platforms, bringing classic arcade games to current consoles. As the fan base eagerly anticipates more news, the potential for a new Marvel vs. Capcom entry seems more promising than ever, provided the community continues to show its enthusiasm and support for these beloved series.
