Climate groups launch $55M pro-Harris ad campaign

Pro-Harris Campaign

Several climate advocacy groups announced a $55 million ad campaign to support Vice President Kamala Harris in her bid for the presidency. The League of Conservation Voters Victory Fund, Environmental Defense Fund Action Votes, Climate Power Action, and the Democratic-aligned Future Forward PAC are leading this initiative. The ads will run in key swing states such as Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

They will also target Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District, where the state splits its electoral votes. The campaign released three central ads on Monday.

One ad focuses on Harris’s commitment to strengthening the middle class, making it a defining goal of her potential presidency.

Another ad contrasts Harris’s record with former President Trump’s on issues like standing up to banks and major oil companies.

The third ad claims that Harris will triple America’s clean energy production, saving consumers money on their electric bills.

David Willett, a spokesperson for the League of Conservation Voters, said that these three ads are just the beginning. He confirmed that more ads would be released in the coming months as part of the same program. However, he did not specify the budget allocation for each ad.

The campaign will use a mix of broadcast and cable ads, as well as digital placements on platforms like YouTube. Pete Maysmith, senior vice president of campaigns at the League of Conservation Voters, said, “When the choice is so stark between Vice President Harris and Trump, and we know it’s going to be a close election, there was a recognition that we needed to join forces.” He added that the coalition aims to pool resources to effectively communicate the critical nature of this election from a climate and energy perspective. The campaign reflects a broader strategy to frame climate action as beneficial not only for the environment but also for the economy.

It aims to appeal to a wide range of voters in key battleground states.
