DJI update adds Apple Watch control

Apple Watch

DJI has released a new update that makes its smartphone stabilizers compatible with various Apple Watch models for remote control. This feature lets Apple Watch users view the camera feed, take photos and videos, control the gimbal direction, adjust composition, switch between portrait and landscape mode, and enable ActiveTrack remotely on their DJI Osmo Mobile. Once shooting is complete, the captured photo or the first frame of the video can also be viewed on the watch.

DJI’s gimbals (camera stabilizer) feature 3-axis stabilization technology, ensuring stable and smooth footage on the go. Users can create smooth cinematic shots and switch from landscape to portrait orientation to share moments on social media. The built-in extension rod simplifies selfies and low-angle shooting, unlocking more camera possibilities.

Due to Apple Watch’s limitations in video transmission bandwidth, there may be some differences in the resolution of the live feed compared to that of your iPhone’s camera. However, these differences will not affect composition operations or the resolution of the final videos and photos. The Osmo Mobile remote control function is available for Apple Watch Series 7/8/9, Apple Watch SE 2, and Apple Watch Ultra 1/2, with watchOS 9 or later.

To use this feature, pair your Apple Watch with your iPhone and update the DJI Mimo app to the latest version on your iPhone. You also need to update your gimbal firmware to V01.06.02.10 or later.

Open the DJI Mimo app on both your iPhone and Apple Watch to start using the feature. Operate in an open area, keeping the devices within eight meters of each other. To keep the DJI Mimo app’s display on your Apple Watch longer, go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Wake Duration > Wake for 70 Seconds.

In addition to Apple Watch compatibility, DJI Mimo app v2.0.4 optimizes multiple functions. The ActiveTrack performance and the UI display have been improved, ensuring more stable subject tracking and a smoother shooting experience. DJI has also optimized the AI editor for the “Parents & Kids” mode, which automatically captures and edits interaction moments between parents and kids.

These updates make the DJI Mimo app an even more powerful tool for capturing and managing content, enhancing the overall user experience.
