YouTube rolls out new pause screen ads

Pause Ads

YouTube has confirmed that it will be rolling out pause ads on the platform. This means users will have to sit through even more ads than before. YouTube’s communication manager, Oluwa Falodun, stated that the company has “seen both strong advertiser and strong viewer response.

We’ve since widely rolled out pause ads to all advertisers.”

The idea behind these ads is that they will be less intrusive to the viewer. Google has been experimenting with the feature for a while. Google’s Philip Schindler stated that the company was seeing positive responses to the feature.

He described it as a “new non-interruptive ad format that appears when users pause their organic content.”

There have been reports of more frequent pause ads on some users’ YouTube mobile apps. YouTube and Google have been working to improve how they show ads to consumers over the years.

New YouTube ad format releases

This includes adding several ads to the video and introducing unskippable ads. While more ads can be tedious, YouTube has made it clear that this was not intended to target specific users. For those who find the increased number of ads annoying, the obvious solution is to sign up for YouTube Premium.

Priced at $13.99 / £12 / AU$32.99, YouTube Premium offers several perks. These perks include ad-free viewing, offline viewing, and background play. YouTube Premium also offers access to YouTube Music.

YouTube is following other services in making use of pause ads. This seems to suggest that there is no escape from increased advertising.
